Free Report – 10 Easy Ways to Rid Your Home of Pests!
Did you know that most people whether they realize it or not have some kind of pest problem in their home? Most pests are nocturnal (they are most active at night) so they are not likely to be seen unless the problem is severe.
The RODAR team here at Micron has been involved in the pest control industry for over twenty-five years. During that time we have learnt a lot about getting rid of pests. We want to share some of this information with you, so we have compiled a list of 10 easy and practical things you can do to help eliminate pests in your home, office, or wherever.
Before we begin it is important to understand that any kind of pest (rat, mouse, roach, bat, squirrel, etc.) is looking for at least one of the following 3 things: food, water, or shelter. Without these pests can’t survive, so you want to try to restrict their access to all three of these things. Here are 10 easy ways to do that:
- Don’t leave food out. You should always store food in
plastic or glass sealed containers. This includes pet food
and bird seeds, rodents are especially attracted to pet food.
Clean up any spills or crumbs, some pests can live on crumbs
alone. Pests are known to hoard food so eliminating a food
source may not reduce infestation immediately. - Collect your garbage frequently and place it in garbage
cans with tight fitting covers. Pests rely on concealment
for protection, they avoid open spaces, clutter attracts them.
So get rid of cardboard boxes, paper sacks, soda bottles, etc.
Take a look around your home and make sure that all windows, doors, and screens fit tightly. You’d be surprised how many pests come in this way!- Go around your home and look at all openings where water pipes, electric wires, telephone wires, cable wires, sewer pipes, drain spouts and vents enter your home. They should be tightly sealed. A mouse for example can get in a hole only a 1/2″ thick. An easy temporary way to seal up any of these holes is to use steel wool.
- Go outside and look around for any cracks or holes in the foundation of your home. Also, look underneath decks, and at corners of house siding for any damage or openings.
- Look for overgrowth of shrubs, foliage, weeds, or vegetation next to or near your home. Accumulations of wood, lumber, pipes, debris, or discarded junk can be a refuge for pests. You should store piles of wood, lumber, or pipes at least 12 – 18 inches from the ground.
- If you can, go up to your chimney and make sure there are no openings around the area the chimney enters your home.
- Look in your attic and in any crawl spaces for vents that may have been damaged and repair them.
- Repair leaking pipes or broken spigots. They can be sources of water for pests.
